introduction
Art elements and design principles can be used intentionally to elicit a specific response from the viewer.
Movement is used by artists to guide the viewer’s eye through a composition.

Compare and contrast artworks
Investigate 2 artists (contemporary & from different cultures) who have created relief sculptures. Print off 1 example of each of the artist’s artwork. Compare and contrast their work, identifying links and making connections between their works. Written information should be your own words. be concise and discuss the 4 topics below:

What is rhythm and movement
Investigate the principle of design – rhythm and balance. Include 2 samples of each (either drawing or photo) that illustrated this principle, along with an explanation in your own words.
Design possible relief ideas
Plan: Sketch out 3 different ideas for your rhythmic sculptures in your sketchbook. What size will it be? How far off will the shapes project off the surface? What are the different view points?
. Tips to keep in mind for a pleasing design:
· Build rhythm within the design by repeating colors, shapes and patterns.
· Build depth within the design by placing darker colors in the background, them building each layer up with sequentially lighter colors.
· Build interest into the design by using a variety of shapes, colors and patterns. Remember to repeat in order to form rhythm.
· Glue small, stacked pieces of cardboard to act as risers.
· Design beyond the edges of the base- as far as you can go.
