How is textured used in art?
Start composing
You will need your Vegetable or fruit in front of you.
1. Cut it in half/ tear it in half, peel of the skin, until you can see many textures and patterns.
Now you're ready to start.
2. Draw a rectangle on your page - this is your view finder.
3. Take your real viewfinder and hold it in front of your fruit of veg so that it fills the space.
4. It is this that you must draw into your rectangle.
See the drawing below for examples.

How is light shown?
How is shadow show?
What colour is used?
Is there blending?
What is your feeling from the art works and what make you think this?

Surface mixing and Soft-pastels
TIPS FOR PASTELS
- Strokes of color begin to visual mix together when you apply small strokes close to each other.
- Overlaying the will help them blend. Work from darkest through to light.
- Smudging the pastels will cover the paper more evenly. Apply one, smudge the apply the next.

Oil-pastels
Oil-pastels are very similar to the Soft-Pastels only they are more waxy and sticky to use. Experiment with them and compare and contrast the results.
